Biographical / Historical

The de Young released a magazine called The Pacific Art Review from 1941-1946. Originally published quarterly, then yearly, the museum stopped publication due to wartime shortages from World War II in 1946.

The Legion of Honor began a regular publication in 1943. The Bulletin of the California Palace of the Legion of Honor was published monthly and provided articles and updates on the museum and its collections. In July 1967, the Legion created a new publication called Museum Bulletin, which was published bi-monthly until December 1968.

A new member magazine called Triptych began publication in 1980. It covered the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, the de Young and the Legion of Honor, as well as the Asian Art Museum, which was housed inside the de Young museum building. It was published by The Museum Society until 1995.

In 1996, Fine Arts replaced Triptych as the FAMSF member magazine and is currently published on a quarterly basis.
