Ink Drawings by Ivan Majdrakoff, May 17-June 15, 1958

Ivan Majdrakoff was an American artist born in New York City in 1927. He studied art at Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan before being appointed assistant director of the University of Minnesota gallery. He later came to California and settled in the Bay Area for about 50 years. Over the years, he taught at several institutions including the University of Minnesota, Stanford University, San Jose State University, University of Utah, San Francisco State University, University of California Extension, Berkeley, and JFK University. He was a professor of drawing and painting at the San Francisco Art Institute for 40 years. His art was presented in solo exhibitions and group shows throughout the country. In addition, his work is held in the collections of the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis Art Institute, di Rosa Preserve, the Cranbrook Museum, and in private collections in over a dozen states, Europe, and Asia. Art was his passion. Working alongside his eclectic collection of found treasures in his Oakland studio, he produced a prolific number of assemblages, paintings, drawings and notebooks. He was active in his studio until a few weeks before his death on July 17, 2015.
