Biographical / Historical

Albert Greenfield was an American artist known as the “Photographic Ambassador of Goodwill” for his efforts to acquaint Americans with South America. He was born in New York City but since 1933 had made annual photographic trips through the Caribbean and South America. Since then he had also exhibited his photographs in museums, galleries, newspapers, and other publications; this 1946 exhibition at the Legion of Honor was his 17th solo exhibition. He was decorated with the Insignia of the National Order of Honor and Merit by Elie Lescor, President of the Republic of Haiti, was commended by the President of Venezuela, was awarded an Associateship in the Photographic Society of American, and received an Honorary Membership in the Pan-American League.
