Scope and Contents

An exhibition of artworks by indigenous artists around the world, intended as a study exhibition where museum audiences could intimately learn about these cultures.
Dozens of people and cultures were represented, including Native Mexicans of Taxco in Tabasco, the Zapotec people, and Native Americans of Arizona. The Pacific Northwest was represented by Native tribes from Oregon, as well as Washington, including the Puyallup, Idaho, represented by the Nez Perce, and Alaskan native groups including the Haida and Inuit. Central Plains tribes included the Pawnee, Sioux, Cheyenne, Arapaho, and Comanche. California tribes included the Tulare and Pomo. Further, indigenous African artists were shown, including groups from Sudan and Madagascar, as well as the Zulu. Southeast Asian and Pacific Island groups included the Louisade of New Guinea, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Samoan Islands, Fiji, and the Marshall Islands. Finally, Australian aboriginal artists and those of the adjacent Caroline Islands and Melville Island.
The exhibition records span two folders and include registration receipts and correspondence regarding an insurance claim.
