Scope and Contents

An exhibition of 38 paintings by Native American artists from across the U.S., including the southwest region, the Central Plains, and Woodland region of the northeastern U.S. The artworks were chosen from the second annual invitational exhibition sponsored by the Philbrook Art Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma and circulated by the Western Association of Art Museum Directors.
The exhibition records span five folders and include an exhibition description, price list, planning correspondence, registration receipts, and collateral from other installations. A copy of the exhibition catalog from the Philbrook Art Center is in the catalog collection. Two related magazines are in the reference collection.

Biographical / Historical

The Philbrook Art Center is an art museum with expansive formal gardens located in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The museum, which opened in 1939, is located in a former 1920s villa, ""Villa Philbrook"", the home of Oklahoma oil pioneer Waite Phillips and his wife Genevieve. Showcasing nine collections of art from all over the world, and spanning various artistic media and styles, the cornerstone collection focuses on Native American art featuring basketry, pottery, paintings and jewelry.
