An exhibition of paintings by Dutch and Flemish artists compiled from two collections of the museum, the Albert Campbell Hooper Collection, a 400 object permanent collection donated in 1943, and the Jacob Stern Collection, a loan collection lent in 1928. Biographical / Historical
Albert Campbell Hooper was born on August 14, 1867, in San Francisco, California, to John Albert Hooper, Jr. and Mary Campbell Brown. He lived in San Mateo, California in 1900 and Palo Alto, California in 1930. He died on October 5, 1944, in San Francisco, California at the age of 77.
Jacob Stern was an American businessman born in New York on April 5, 1851. He was one of the heirs of Levi Strauss & Co., which he inherited from his uncle Levi Strauss upon Strauss’ death in 1902. He was a San Francisco-based businessman and art collector. Known for a modest discernment and impressive taste in art, he kept a small collection of rare, high quality artworks. This collection he kept in his home where family and friends would visit to view them. He died in 1924.
